Definition

Ischaemic heart disease

Angina pectoris, prior myocardial infarction, prior percutaneous coronary intervention or prior coronary artery bypass grafting

Peripheral arterial disease

Intermittent claudication, reduced peripheral arterial blood flow or previous vascular surgery due to peripheral arterial disease;

Previous Stroke

Prior history of ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke

Cardiovascular risk factors

Age ≥ 70 years, congestive heart failure, previous transient ischaemic attack, diabetes and currently taking an oral hypoglycaemic agent or insulin, hypertension, preoperative serum creatinine concentration > 175 μmol/L, smoking within two years of surgery
